NEW MUSIC: BEYONCE FT. JAY-Z & KAYNE WEST “DRUNK IN LOVE REMIX”

Drunk in Love (Remix)

“Everybody say Hey Ms. Carter. Everybody say Heyyyyyy Ms. Carter.” Kayne comes through on the remix telling everyone about his sex-capades.Told you give the drummer some, now the drummer cummin’. I’m pa rum pa pum pumin’ all on your stomach” The remix includes samples of Kanye’s songs like “Flashing Lights” and “I’m In It.” Is it a hit? HOW THE HELL NOT? I woke up on the couch tryna figure out how the hell did this ish happen. At the thought of it, I was biased, only because King Hov will always reign supreme and this song to me was such a hit because it was between a man and wife. But luckily Kanye did the damn thing. Jay’s verse stays the same as does most of Beyonce‘s. Give it a listen. Amber Rose did and tweeted “Fuck my fav song is ruined. Smh. Terrific.” Probably because of this line : “Yeah, tonight I see some super freaky hoes. That could go from bein’ stripper to a super C.E.O.” Bey clearly doesn’t want anyone else to have a chance this era. The trailer for the video was released, let’s see if it gets the “Put In a Love Song” treatment.

NEW MUSIC: JOJO – #LOVEJO

Ok, this thing right here you guys. This is heaven sent. This voice is one from the gods! Lil ole JoJo has given you all VOCALS. Somebody call Rihanna and let her to just transfer over to Ke$ha‘s genre of spoken word. Hell, send Ashanti on her way too, we have to make room for this voice. She has been done so wrong in the past Joanna HAS to win. She covers Anita Baker‘s “Caught Up In The Rapture” and Phil Collins“Take Me Home”. She even takes y’all home with this opera track “Glory” that she puts a little gospel flair on. I can go on all day about her vocals. She is giving it. Atlantic is about to make a pretty little penny off this one right here. She is about to WIN, mark my words.

NEW MUSIC: SHAKIRA FT. RIHANNA “CAN’T REMEMBER TO FORGET YOU”

Well, here it is folks. After all the hype behind it, the collaboration from the two divas is here. Produced by John Hill (Santigold, Christina Aguilera) and Tom “Kid Harpoon” Hull (Calvin Harris, Florence + the Machine) , the track features reggae inspiration while being uptempo. The video was shot by Joseph Khan in a L.A. mansion and is to be released in the weeks to follow. Now that I’ve said that, I can say what I feel. This is a rip-off of No Doubt‘s musical style circa 2001 (Rock Steady). They just upped the tempo. Nonetheless, it is a cute song. It will do decent overseas as all of Shakira and Rihanna‘s music does. Now I have to address the Rihanna “Navy.” I follow some on twitter and have seen them extremely upset with the song, even some who aren’t apart of the Navy. I have on statement: IT IS NOT RIHANNA’S SONG. She is a featured artist, she was asked to follow the style of the artist whose song it is. This is Shakira style to an extent. Not everything Rihanna does is her own personal work. She collaborated and was asked to conform to this certain genre and she complied, you all are acting like this is her single for her new album. Ok, rant over. Anyways, check out the song below which is Shakira’s first single off her tenth debut album due in March 25th.

I still like “Beautiful Liar” more.

VIDEO: LADY GAGA FT. CHRISTINA AGUILERA “DO WHAT YOU WANT”

On the season finale of NBC’s “The Voice” R. Kelly was busy being charged with sexual assault somewhere, Christina Aguilera filled in and showed out. She came on stage with a dress matching Gaga’s dress to perform her “ARTPOP” single “Do What You Want”. Lil’ Miss Piggy has become a sex siren again with her big hair, big voice, and slim body. After her the success of the collaboration with A Great Big World on “Say Something” this is exactly the kind of promo she needs if she plans on releasing anything. Now back to Gaga, she is trying hard to hold on to her relevance since Beyoncé stole the little she did have. Watch the two show off their vocals below.

NEW MUSIC REVIEW: BEYONCÉ BY BEYONCÉ

File:Beyonce album.png

Mrs. Carter could not stand to see anyone else get any attention and got tired of Tamar jacking her style. So what does she do? Follow her husband and release an album out of nowhere with no promotion. I’ll say this, Beyoncé might have a hit on her hands here. She got smart and followed the blueprint of her last successful album besides her debut, “B’Day”. The album contains 14 tracks and 17 videos. She takes some notes from her lessors and adapts the ratchet persona that is so popular these days. Now her Beyhive may say that she is from Houston and that she always has been ratchet but she was not checking for that ratchet card until others were. Honestly, she looks a tad uncomfortable in some of these videos like “Drunk In Love.” You can see ratchet is not her natural state. Now while there are videos with the ratchet aspect like the one mentioned above and BowDown “***Flawless,”(which I just got a new dance from *waves hands*) there are some with artistic nature like “Ghost,”  and “Haunted,” the latter I’m sure some will find some Illuminati references as it’s a bit darker than usual for Beyoncé. I will say, she did a good job with these videos. Now on to the tracks. Now I could sit here and go on and do a track-by-track review but I will just pick a few that stand out.

Jealous – This is her “If I Were A Boy” to an extent. Just goes on to talk about her husband that is always at work and whatnot and how she is jealous. She uses sarcasm in the chorus saying “If you’re keeping your promise, I’m keeping mine” I think I just love the fact that she references “Freakum Dress” in the lyrics. The track, produced by Detail (Lady Gaga, Lil’ Wayne, Brandy) uses a nice guitar rift over a 808. Overall, I see this being a single.

Drunk In Love (ft. Jay-Z) – Even you all don’t know anything, know Jay-Z is the best man ever. Now my blog isn’t biased, but I stan for the man till the death of me. Drunk in Love, clearly a continuation of Bey’s smash hit “Crazy In Love,” was also produced Detail and uses a bit of Hindu type vocals. Lyrics like “Can’t keep your eyes off my phat ass” and Jay-Z line “Hope you can handle this curve, foreplay in the hallway” easily shows the growth in not only their careers, but their relationship. At one time you couldn’t even get the two of them in a room together with cameras, nowadays you have them on a track talking about their sex life. Love at its best. This is on repeat.

Partition – THIS. SHIT. HERE. Excuse my french, but this is SEXY. Makes me want to strip down right now. Now “Yonce” is in the opening of the track and Yonce must be her rap alter ego. And honestly it wasn’t bad at all. “I sneezed on the beat and the beat got sicker, Yonce all on his mouth like liquor.” Catchy. Now the actual track produced by none other than Timbaland himself (alongside Justin Timberlake, Harmon, Key Wane) has a bass line, I’m talking a mean bass line. Beyoncé said : “Aw, he so horny; Yeah he want to fuck.” YES BEYONCÉ. “He Monica Lewinsky’d all on my gown” All this time I have wanted a nasty track from Beyoncé. Her whole career I have wanted one. “Handprints and good grips all on my ass” I digress, I can’t handle it. The video …  I’m clearly taking this post personal.

Mine (ft. Drake) – First let me say “Ok Drake” for the come-up. Beyoncé rarely let’s anybody on her tracks, let alone let someone sing on it. Now this could have easily been a track off “4” and they just added Drake and a new beat on the chorus, but regardless I like it. Drake really did this. Beyonce wanted to show Rihanna how to make a track with Drake. “Fuck what ya heard, your mine. Long as you know who you belong to.” Produced by Noah “40” Shebib(Drake, Lil Wayne, Alicia Key), it is in true Drake nature, in the fact that it starts with one beat then changes midway through the song, like Drake’s entire discography. It’s a nice love song with a hint of island beat to it.

There you have it, Brandiinoo’s take on BEYONCÉ. Now on iTunes, the album description says there is collaborations from Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. Now besides Kelly in the “Grown Woman” video, and both of them in the “Superpower” video, there are no collaborations. Now was this shade from iTunes or shade from Beyoncé for not crediting them for their alleged collaboration? For now it’s speculation until I hear that husky man voice from Michelle on a track singing “OooOOOoooOOOo”

FORGOTTEN: R&B GIRL GROUPS

Now we all know we love a good girl group. Unfortunately, not all of them could be Destiny’s Child or TLC. Shoot, some couldn’t even be the Cheetah Girls. Here I have composed a list, of what I feel are the five most forgotten girl groups. In no particular order, lets go down memory lane.

Number 1. The Do It To It Girls Cherish

The quartet based out of Atlanta, they got their first big break of Da Man, I mean, Da Brat’s single “In Love Wit Chu” when they were about 17-18 holding martini glasses.  Surprisingly, Da Brat looked more feminine then the girls did. Well shortly after little Miss. Kandi Burgess wrote a flop “Ms. P”  for the group which didn’t chart anywhere but the R&B charts. Soon after they did some work for The Powerpuff Girl Movie”. Then in 2005 it looked like they hit the scene with “Do It To It”, followed by “Unappreciated”, the album was a success. When it was time for the 3rd single, their label, Capitol Records, decided to merge which prevented single releases for not only Cherish, but for Chingy, Letoya Luckett, Janet Jackson & Brooke Valentine… wonder if that’s what they all blame their flop lifes on? Yada, Yada, that’s their claim to fame. Nowadays, they are still a group, lying about filming television shows and releasing singles. At least they will always have each other.

Numero Dos. Dream

If I had a post for worst person to sign with, Diddy would win hand down. The pop/R&B group had replacements before they even had a demo.  Their single “He Loves You Not” was a huge hit. Their debut album It Was All A Dream” went on to gain platinum certification, selling over 1.5 million units. They spent 20 weeks on the charts. So what happened? 9-11. That prevented their next two singles, and from their it was a spiral downfall. One of the members, Melissa Schuman quit during recording of their second album to act… She is allegedly in “Love Don’t Cost a Thang”…. allegedly. Now they are all solo and trying to attempt flop careers as all groups do. Poor them.

Next up at #3: Cheetah Girls 3LW

Well well well, what do we have here? Oh just another platinum selling girl group that is no where to be found. Let’s just get to the good stuff. Just before the realize of their flop sophomore album “A Girl Can Mack” , backup vocalist, Lil’ Kim Naturi Naughton left the group for good. She alleged that she had a number of conflicts and arguments with Adrienne and Kiely which led to a heated argument in August 2002 involving an altercation with KFC food…. flipping Kentucky Fried Chicken. I will not deal. So what do they do? Replace of course, with another brown skinned girl named Jessica Benson. Well soon after she joins the group, the other two decide to join the Cheetah Girls franchise which pushed their 3rd album back indefinitely. Poor Jessica couldn’t get 2 seconds of fame. Well you can find Adrienne on the television talk show The Real” alongside  Tamar Braxton, Jeanne Mai, Loni Love, and Tia Mowry. Kiely is releasing weird videos to horrible songs. And as for Naturi, well just hook up with Lil’ Kim and yall can bash her together.

Now on to #4: Electrik Red

The issue I had is that I got Electrik Red and RichGirl confused allll the time. They were one in the same to me. Well, the only thing Electrik Red was known for was swinging on the ropes on their single “So Good.” The four girls are all dancers, as they have been in videos for Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Akon, Chris Brown and even in “Dreamgirls”. They met while dancing on Usher‘s Confessions tour and two of them met The Dream on the set of his “Shawty Is a Ten” video. From there they went on to be signed under Dream and released their debut album “How to Be a Lady: Volume One.” The album went on to debut at #100 on the Billboard charts with 5,000 units sold…. 5,000. I digress.  They are still a group and have been working on their sophomore album for the last three years. I will say I still so enjoy “P is For Power”.

Last but not least: Isyss

“So if I cant have yooooou, I’ll just single for the rest of my life.” This was the anthem for all the females with cheating thugs as men. They had a bit of success with their only album “The Way We Do”. The group included Meagan Good‘s older sister La’Miya Good. The group had short success, but I really want to touch on the lead singer Quierra Davis. (the far right) Babygirl is REACHING for a break these days. From releasing mixtapes and video to these songs, to personally commenting on Youtube lyrics videos that ransoms made to tell her “fans” that she is releasing new music. She put out two new songs on iTunes this year. She is Teairra Marie with some age on her. Not only do they favor in looks, their careers are one in the same. Don’t believe me? Here’s proof. Here’s promo OldOld Qui Qui.

On Repeat This Week: Sevyn Streeter

SevynEPCover

So lets talk Sevyn Streeter. Now I have personally been a fan of Sevyn back when she was Se7en and none of yall were checking for her, but that’s neither here nor there. Lets see if you can remember what commercially failed girl group Se7en spawned from. Ahh, yes TG4 was it. The group founded by Chris Stokes, had one song that peaked at number 88 on Billboard Virginity“, they disbanded and a few years later Se7en joined yet another flop girl group, RichGirl. This one founded by Rich Williams, who hasn’t had a semi-hit since 2011, tried their shot at success in 2011.  After yet another flop career, Se7en took the smart route, changed her name to Sevyn, signed with Chris Brown and became full time back up singer for all of Brown’s tracks. Remember She Ain’t You ? Chris even let her be in the music video, how nice of him.

Well fast-forward to 2013 and Sevyn has become quite the envy of all her former band mates. With her Aaliyah-like style and deep vocals, she has found the perfect time to come through. With her Chris Brown assisted single It Won’t Stop reaching the top ten on Billboard, her first solo EP has been one of the best of 2013. Stand out tracks like Call Me Crazy showcase amazing production, BANS shows her impeccable writing style full of metaphors and acronyms, and Shattered showing her vocal range. Not just is she a talented artist, she has writing credits including almost all of Chris Brown’s recent hits, Kelly Rowland’s Gone,” Tamar Braxton’s All The Way Home,”  and Ariana Grande’s The Way.” Point blank, if Sevyn had Kelly’s notoriety, she would give Beyonce a run for her money. R&B at it’s finest. Like I said: On Repeat.
